There are way too many people sleeping rough. Please give a thought to all the men, women and children that are going into the winter without a roof over their heads or a nice warm bed to sleep in.
I am back into daily practice. This quick sketch was done during an ad break at night watching tv. I was looking down at my foot and thought "I can do that". So here you get to see my daggy slipper, (you lucky people). Zen Brush is a great app to use for a quick study. One brush with adjustable size and 3 shades of grey, but what more do you need for a quick sketch?
As I said in my previous post, in among everything else I do, I am getting back into drawing practice and a major part of drawing is shading. One can never get too much shading practice. Here is a value scale I did trying out my new pencil which arrived in the mail today. It is a Kimberly 525 9XXB.
This study of an eye was done on arches smooth watercolour paper 300gsm. 14 x 9 cm.
I used just one pencil the Primo Elite Grande organic black 5000. For blending I used a tissue and a fantastix brush point coloring tool and for the highlights I used my trusty putty eraser.
Here for something differen. This was created while waiting in a doctors waiting room. Just something to pass the time.
The last stage went quicker than I expected. I found the appropriate brushes in procreate so did not have to go hunting too far. For this painting I painted the background layer black before creating my petal layer. Here I used the round painter brush laying the different colours down in patches being careful to go in the same directions of the petals. The blending is what has given them the 3D effect. I then created the layer for the stamens and pollen. For the stamens I used the water setting in the elements brush. I used 3 different colours overlapping till I got the result I was after. No blending needed for this part. I then used the inking brush with yellow and orange
After a few days busy elsewhere, I have finally finished the petals. The centre needs a totally different texture so I am going to play with different brushes maybe even in other apps till I find what I am looking for.
I am looking forward to completing the circle of petals. Then I will be experimenting with other textures for the centre. I may need to try different apps to get the texture I want.
As you see this is a slow process. I am really enjoying using a lot of colour with the blending brush in the right direction giving it a 3D look.
